Why use it?
Omega 3 fatty acids (Alpha-linolenic acids) are polyunsaturated fatty acids that the body cannot produce.
While there are many types of Omega 3 fatty acids, the most common are Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) and Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA). These oils also support heart health, brain function, weight management, liver condition, fighting inflammation, promoting bone health and preventing asthma.
Omega 6 fatty acids are also polyunsaturated fatty acids and so cannot be produced by the body. The main function of Omega 6 fatty acids is to produce energy. The most common Omega 6 fatty acid is linoleic acid.
Omega 9 fatty acids are monounsaturated fatty acids. Unlike Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids, Omega 9 fatty acids can be reproduced by the body. It has been found that an increase in Omega 9 fatty acids can support our sensitivity to insulin.

Cats can use both our feline and canine omega blends. They simply need a slightly higher dosage, for example 4ml daily instead of 3ml.

Our Omega Oil blend is designed to give a 7:1 ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6.

How much EHA and DPA is there per serve of NAS Omega Oil?
The exact ratio can vary on the harvest of Cod Liver Oil as we use responsibly sourced, naturally harvested Cod Liver Oil. On average, NAS Omega Oils provide 79mg of EPA and 82mg of DHA per 5ml serve. Based on the recommended dosages by weight, this equates to an optimal 16 to 18mg per kilo of weight of your pet per day, perfectly supplementing the wonderful mix of other foods in their bowl.
What is ‘EPA’ and ‘DHA’?
EPA and DHA are two types of Omega 3 fatty acids called Eicosapentaenoic Acid and Docosahexaenoic Acid. ALA is a third fabulous Omega 3 Fatty acid which is found in plant sources, such as Flaxseed Oil contained in our wonderful NAS blend as well. These 3 champion fatty acids are referred to as ‘essential fatty acids’ because they are necessary for health, but not made by the body. The body uses fatty acids to maintain and create different functional molecules in the body, specifically ones related to signalling, moderating inflammation and even heart an brain function.
